Heritage Defense Kit

Heritage Defence Kit (HDK) is an educational package designed to empower Brisbane residents to take ownership over the future of their suburbs. Tackling an ingrained disregard for heritage architecture within Brisbane and a recent increase in development, HDK gives residents the tools and information required to begin opposing developments within their suburbs.

Founded on participatory design principles, HDK places the residents/public at the centre of decision making, offering an opportunity to re-imagine the neighbourhood through collaborative mapping activities.

Strengthened by informative guides, presented in accessible booklets that may easily be printed in a home office, HDK aims to give users an insight into the process of opposing development without overwhelming them. The kit is accompanied by a style guide that outlines the brand elements ensuring consistency.

Prioritising approachability, clarity and openness the kit and supplementary style guide seek to appeal to a broad range of community members including those previously unfamiliar with heritage preservation.
